In 2019, with the release of Mac OS Catalina, iTunes was discontinued and its functionality split between four separate apps, making this method null and void for all but a select few. However, it still remains a possible option for those who like their computers how they like their smartphones – old and out-of-date distinguished and with many years of experience:

1. Make sure that you are running the latest version of iTunes on your Windows PC, then use a USB cable to connect your iPhone to your computer.

2. Launch iTunes. In the left-hand panel, open your device’s summary page by clicking on your iPhone.

3. Tap on Info and check the box next to Sync Contacts with.

4. From the drop-down, select the appropriate option.

Method 3a: Export Contacts From iPhone to Outlook or Gmail With iTunes

Once you reach Step 4 above, you have the option of exporting your contacts to the email provider of your choice:

1. Select either Google Contacts or Outlook.

Sylpheed

Sylpheed is a full-featured email client: supporting POP3,IMAP, SSL and everything else you'd expect. The full feature list can beseen at the Sylpheed homepage.

This is a port and Hildonisation of Sylpheed to integrate it as a properMaemo application. It's not finished, and so should be viewedas an alpha-release. You may be better off using Claws or (even better, hopefully)Modest.

Known bugs

Not all windows are Hildonised yet (that is, many have menubars ratherthan pop-up menus, and so on).

Fix dependencies on N800 to avoid start-up problem (see this solution in the mean time).

Full-screen button doesn't work.

Some windows appear too small, others too big.

Select from middle of direction pad should open message in proper viewwindow.

Synchronisation and backup using rsync & make

Please note this has not been updated for 2006 OS,instead I prefer bind-mounts, however it is easily customisable.

The built-in backup/restore tool doesn't backup all yourdevice's configuration or installed applications. This script (aMakefile)meets those requirements and allows for maintaining patched parts of the rootfilesystem across firmware upgrades.

Usage

Requires rsync and SSH (on both 770 & hostcomputer) and make on the host.

Memo For Management

To 'install' the script:

Create a new, empty directory, on a Unix-like box (e.g. Mac OS X,Linux, *BSD, Windows with cygwin) and ensure you have rsync, make and SSHinstalled.

Download Makefile.770sync and move it to thenew directory, named Makefile.

Modify the line beginning REMOTE_DEVICE topoint to your 770. For example, my 770 has a fixed IP, I have root accesson it (by enablingR&D mode) and Dropbear is running on port 22 (the default), thereforethe line in my local copy says:

There are three 'targets' which can be executed to act onyour device. To execute them, run the following command:

Push changes in the local copy to the remote device. This is effectivelya restore from a backup, if pull has been previously run.

pull

Pull changes from the remote device to your local copy. Effectivelyperforming a backup.

bootstrap

Similar to push but doesn't use rsync. This is useful when yourdevice has just been reflashed and is missing any software. By just installingand starting SSH, thistarget can be used to restore your documents, changes and applications (suchas rsync). An article on dillernet.com,Recovering From A Firmware Flash, has some techniqueswhich may also help in this regard (specifically scripts to install theneeded packages & SSH keys from the MMC card).

Since bootstrap will generally be required when reflashing andbefore SSH is running as root; SSH may well be listening on port 2222 (ifstarted by an unprivileged user), rather than port 22. Therefore, you canoverride the REMOTE_DEVICE variable:

make [email protected]:2222/ bootstrap

Note: in this example, as the SSH server was started as anormal user, it would not be possible to restore symlinks in /etc.

Example

One common requirement when SSH is installed is startingit automatically when your device is turned on. This is easily done bycreating a symlink, as described in the InstallSsh document in the wiki.

Unfortunately, when you reflash your device, this symlink will be lost.However, by using the script you can ensure that this (and similar changes)are put back on the device when you restore:

As you can see, the local 770-sync directorycontains a copy of any changes you've made to the file system. In addition,the user's home directory, the configuration and the installed applications are pulled back on a pull operation.

Citrix ICA client

The below screenshots show that theCitrixARM Linux client can be got to run on a Nokia 770, although it iscurrently much use: the virtual keyboard is tied to onboard GTK+applications. A USB keyboard, or a Bluetooth keyboard using kbddshould work, however.

The Citrix install file won't work with busybox's 'expr' implementation andwithout 'cpio'. The application itself requires a few extra debs (whichfortunately Debian/ARM can provide):

Asustor AS4004T NAS Review

Every month we see a greater demand for faster file sharing devices that can support higher capacities. Let’s face it, 1Gbps connectivity inside of your house is slowly dying. The next step up from 1Gbps speeds is 10Gbps. I remember a few years ago 10Gbe networking wasn’t affordable for your average household and only enterprise companies were able to afford them. Today we can buy a 10Gbps switch for just a few hundred bucks and if you already have a 10Gbps network ready then you probably looking for a new NAS device. NAS manufacturers acknowledge the change in the small offices and household and so they release newer devices with 10Gbps capabilities. My test subject comes from Asustor, AS4004T. AS4004T is a four-bay Network Attached Storage device that is 10Gbps ready and backward compatible with 1Gbps networks. This NAS is powered by Marvel Armada 7K Dual-Core Processor and has 2GB of DDR4 RAM by Toshiba. Closer Look at the ASUSTOR AS4004T AS4004T is a 4-bay device that has ABS plastic shell with an aluminum frame on the inside. The color of the entire shell is black however the frame is painted silver. On the front of the device, there are two buttons, one for power and one for copying to the NAS from an external source. AS4004T also has a set of front-facing LEDs which show the hard drive and network activities. In addition to buttons and LEDs, there is a single USB 3.0 connection in the front for any external devices you may want to use. There are no ventilation holes on either side of the device. AS4004T is not completely square as it has a stylish pop-up design on both sides of the device. To gain access to the hard drives you would need to remove the front bezel which is magnetically attached to the case. To keep AS4004T on the flat surfaces Asustor glues four rubber pads on the bottom of the enclosure. At the bottom of the device there are air intake slots. AS4004T is actively cooled by a 120mm fan. On the back of the device, there is one USB 3.0 Connector, one 10GbE jack, 2 1Gbe jacks, a power connector, and a Kensington security port. To remove hard drive sleds, you need to operate a small lever in the front of the drive and pull it out. The drive sleds do not require any tools or screws to install drives in them. Hard drives are being held by a pair of clips.

AS4004T is very well packaged and grounded. As you can see from the pictures the entire shell is grounded in multiple places. I don’t think I have ever seen this much grounding tape on a device like this. The motherboard is extremely clean and has no over fluxing spots or excess of soldering on the components. The CPU and 10GbE controllers are passively cooled by a pair of aluminum heatsinks. On the back of the board, I found a metal cage that is soldered on. Daughter board which connected the drives to the motherboard is extremely clean as well. Here are some of the chips I found on in AS4004T.

The 10GbE controller is also by Marvell, Alaska Single 10GBase-T/NBase-T Ethernet Controller (88x3310-BUS4).

AS4004T has 2 GB of RAM by Samsung, DDR4 Ram Modules (K4A8G16 5WB BCRC). These are soldered on and cannot be upgraded.

Marvell USB 3.0 Controller (RTS5412) supports the two USB 3.0 connectors in AS4004T.

The 1Gbps connection is supported by (2x) Marvell Energy Efficient Ethernet Controllers (88E1512-NNP2).

The Disk On Module (DOM) is supported by Toshiba Memory (QA3554).

The Disk On Module controller is by SiliconMotion, USB 2.0 Dual Channel Flash Controller (SM3252q BB). A Single port Mellanox Connectx-2 PCI-Express x 8 10GbE Ethernet Network Server Adapter network card was installed in the test system. Asustor AS4004T in all RAID arrays used a Single Static Volume. SFP-10G-T-S (10GbE) adapter was used for all 10GbE benchmarks. Network Layout For all tests, the NAS was configured to use a single network interface. Network cards were used to test 1Gbps (copper) and 10 Gbps (SFP+) connections. For 1Gbps connection one CAT 6 cable was connected to the MikroTik CRS317-1G-16S+RM from the NAS and one CAT 6 cable was connected to the workstation from the switch. Testing was done on the PC with only 1 network card active. For 10Gbps connection one Cat 6 cable was connected to MikroTik CRS317-1G-16S+RM from the NAS and one Fiber 10Gb cable was connected to the workstation from the switch. The switch was cleared of any configuration. Jumbo frames were used (9000 MTU) on the workstation, NAS and the switch. Network drivers used on the workstation are 5.50.14643.1 by Mellanox Technologies. (Driver Date 8/26/2018) (10GbE adapter) and 9.15.11.0 by Intel (Driver Date 10/14/2011) Software All testing is done based off a single client accessing the NAS. Both of the software were installed on the RAM Drive by ImDisk Virtual Disk Driver. Crystal Disk Mark is an old favorite disk benchmarking software which we have used for many years. It provides us with useful information on read and write speeds of the targets. You can get your own free copy right here. ATTO Disk Benchmark gives a good insights on the read and write speeds of the drive. In our tests, we used it against the "share" on the NAS. ATTO Disk Benchmark could be download right here. All tests were run a total of three times then averaged to get the final result. RAID 0,5 and 10 were tested for 1GbE and 10GbE connections. Tests were run after all the RAID arrays were fully synchronized. RAID Information

Images courtesy of Wikipedia JOBD or Just a Bunch Of Disks is exactly what the name describes. The hard drives have no actual raid functionality and are spanned at random data is written at random. RAID 0 is a stripe set and data is written across the disks evenly. The advantage of RAID 0 is speed and increased capacity. With RAID 0 there is no redundancy and data loss is very possible. RAID 1 is a mirrored set and data is mirrored from one drive to another. The advantage of RAID 1 is data redundancy as each piece of data is written to both disks. The disadvantage of RAID 1 is write speed is decreased as compared to RAID 0 due to the write operation is performed on both disks. RAID 1 capacity is that of the smallest disk. RAID 10 combines the 1st two raid levels and is a mirror of a stripe set. This allows for better speed of a RAID 0 array but the data integrity of a RAID 1 array. RAID 5 is a stripe set with parity. RAID 5 requires at least 3 disks. Data is striped across each disk, and each disk has a parity block. RAID 5 allows the loss of one drive without losing data. The advantage to RAID 5 is read speeds increase as the number of drives increase but the disadvantage is write speeds are slower as the number of drives is increased. There is overhead with RAID 5 as the parity bit needs to be calculated and with software

RAID 5 there is more of a performance hit. RAID 6 expands on RAID 5 by adding an additional parity block to the array that is distributed across all the disks. Since there are two parity blocks in the array more overhead is used with a RAID 6 array. For a full breakdown of RAID levels, take a look at the Wikipedia article here. RAID configurations are a highly debated topic. RAID has been around for a very long time. Hard drives have changed, but the technology behind RAID really hasn’t. So what may have been considered ideal a few years ago may not be ideal today. If you are solely relying on multiple hard drives as a safety measure to prevent data loss, you are in for a disaster. Ideally, you will use a multi-drive array for an increase in speed and lower access times and have a backup of your data elsewhere. I have seen arrays with hot spares that had multiple drives fail and the data was gone. Following Benchmarks were performed via 1GbE connectivity. Raid 0 1Gbps Raid 10 1Gbps Raid 5 1Gbps Following Benchmarks were performed via 10GbE connectivity. Raid 0 10Gbps Raid 10 10Gbps Raid 5 10Gbps Conclusion and Final Thoughts There is a lot to Asustor AS4004T than just a pretty outer shell. When we review hardware here at Modders-Inc we really get down into performance and statistics of a device and AS4004T treatment was no different. For the short time that I had with AS4004T, I have tested and used this device as I would any other NAS on my network. Moving large files and installing software from Asustor App Central was easy and straight forward. I have experience with ADM so it was easy for me to navigate. ADM is easy to work with as everything is intuitive and straight forward. Asustor AS4004T is powered by Marvell Armada 7K Dual Core Embedded processor and while using the device I have noticed CPU activity times in upper 70-80% while transferring large files across the network. Based on the benchmarks and the data they have produced AS4004T should be able to push data much faster while using 10GbE connectivity. At times it felt like the Armada 7K CPU had a difficult time keeping up with the Alaska 10GbE controller. Working with 1Gbps connection I saw no issues lag or choking.

ADM software which drives AS4004T is powerful and flexible and comes with App Central plugin through which you can install and manage a decent number of applications. How To Setup Roadrunner Email login page On Mac OS X Mail?

Mac OS is getting updated these days and is offering much more to its users. The basic idea is to provide complete satisfaction and cater to the demands of the existing customer. If you are using the Roadrunner email login page on your smartphone and want to configure it on your Mac OS X, then follow the steps mentioned here as under.

Open the ‘Mail’ app from the home screen of MacBook.

Click on ‘Preferences’ followed by ‘Add a new account’.

Click on the ‘+’ icon from the screen and start adding a www.roadrunner.com an email with the steps given on-screen.

If you don’t find the ‘Roadrunner’ on the screen, then add it manually with the name of the service provider in the first column.

If you want to alter any settings, click on ‘Preferences’ from the main menu.

Enter the Roadrunner login email page address for verification purposes followed by the ‘POP or IMAP server’ menu. If you want to remove any settings, then click to do it directly. Don’t forget to take a backup of data online before deleting anything. If you are using SMTP, then change the settings from the ‘Preferences’ menu.

How To Copy Your Thunderbird Settings To Another Computer

You have just spent hours setting up Thunderbird on your main computer. Now you want to set up your laptop or your another computer with the same settings but you do not want to spend all that time doing it again from scratch. This article shows how to copy the settings / profiles from one computer to another.

Copying Thunderbird 3 settings from Windows to Windows is really easy.

There's a free download that you can use called MozBackup. The link is at the bottom of this article. Steps:

• Install MozBackup on your main computer. • Backup your Thunderbird profile. • Copy the backup to your secondary computer. • Install MozBackup on your secondary computer. • Restore your profile from the backup.

If you would like step by step instructions please refer to the Appendix in the Thunderbird 3.0 Essential Guide.

If you want to copy your Thunderbird settings between Windows, Mac OS X and Linux there are a couple more steps involved but it's not complicated.

I'll refer to the computers as main computer – the one you've set up – and second computer – the one to which you are copying the settings. The menus shown are for copying settings from Windows to Mac OS X, but the steps are the same regardless of which operating systems you use.

Important! All the settings and email stored in Thunderbird on the second computer will be removed. This guide is designed with a new installation of Thunderbird in mind. If you have emails and contacts you wish to keep on your second computer you have to setup an account to synchronize with Gmail, copy your old emails to your Gmail account, and synchronize your contacts with Gmail before you continue. For details on how to do this please read the Thunderbird Essential Guide.

The key steps are: 1. Find the location of your Thunderbird profile on your main computer. 2. Copy your profile from your main computer to a USB drive. 3. Copy your profile from the USB drive to your second computer. 4. Verify paths to mail folders and signatures.

1. Find the location of your Thunderbird profile The location of your Thunderbird profile folder depends on the operating system you use. If you are unsure of the location you can verify it in Thunderbird.

• Go to the Tools → Account Settings … window (Edit → Account Settings … on Linux).

• Select the Server Settings tab on your account.

• Click the Browse button to verify the location of your mail folder for this account. Make a note of the folder location.

• Now click on the Local Folders tab. Then click on Browse.

• Make a note of the location.

2. Copy your profile from your main computer to a USB drive To copy your profile on to a USB drive simply shut down Thunderbird and go to the folder where your profile is stored. Your name will be different.

Note: You may have issues with hidden folders in Linux and Windows. Tips on how to find them are in the Thunderbird Essential Guide.

Make sure you have sufficient free space on your USB drive before you copy the profile folder. Now copy the xxxxxxxx.default folder to your USB drive.

3. Copy your profile from the USB drive to the second computer On your second computer we will copy the contents of the profile folder from the USB drive.

• Install Thunderbird

• Start Thunderbird for the first time so the profile folder gets created.

You do not need to create an account since we are going to overwrite all the settings anyway.

• Shut down Thunderbird.

• Navigate to the profile folder.

Notice how the profile name is different to that of the old computer.

• Open the yyyyyyyy.default folder and delete all the contents of the folder.

Do not delete the yyyyyyyy.default folder – only the contents of the folder!

Important! This will remove all email and settings you have stored on Thunderbird if you already have Thunderbird on this computer. Only do this if you do not wish to keep the old emails.

• On your USB drive open the profile folder from your main computer.

• Copy the contents of the xxxxxxxx.default folder on the USB drive into the yyyyyyyy.default folder on your second computer.

It is important that you do not change the name of the yyyyyyyy.default folder.

4. Verify paths to mail folders and signatures

If you find that the email folders do not appear correctly you will need to verify the folder locations.

• Start Thunderbird again.

• Go to Tools → Account Settings …

• On the Server Settings tab verify the location of your email folders.

• On the Local Folders tab verify the location of your local folders.

• Click on the My Mail IMAP tab.

• Verify that your signatures are set up correctly.

If your signatures are stored in external files you will need to copy these from your main computer too. If you entered your signature in Thunderbird it should be set up correctly.
